  • What a great Saturday...

I spent all day with the kids from my volunteer group and the other volunteers.  We went on a campus tour of UCLA (my friend Trini had her student worker show us around.  She was even kind enough to show us her dorm room - such a nice kid.  The kids got a taste of college life), took them to Diddy Reese for dessert (I had a Hawaiian Shaved Ice - yum!), went to the movies to see "Night At the Museum: The Battle of the Smithsonian" (very funny), and then to In and Out for Double Double Combos (yum, part two).  I had a blast!  Those kids are so much fun to be around - really great kids.  I haven't laughed so much in a long time.  The main goal of our organization is helping the kids plan for their futures, getting them into college, and helping them become well-adjusted adults.  They are well on their way.  Hanging with them today helped me view the future with far less jaded eyes (actually, every time I hang out with them that happens).  If we as a nation invest more time and effort into our children more, the future wouldn't have a giant question mark next to it.  The future would then be something we could all look forward to with anticipation.  To quote Whitney Houston and Randy Watson (of Sexual Chocolate from "Coming to America"), "I believe the children are our future.  Teach them well and let them lead the way.  Show them all the beauty they possess inside.  Give them a sense of pride to made it easier."
